Like The Greg Kihn Band says, “they don’t write ‘em like that anymore.”
Check out this old-school ad for Reeses’ Peanut Butter Cups.
Forget the fact that a woman would prance down the boulevard chomping from a jar of peanut butter with her bare hands (dreamy as it sounds.) Forget the creepy old dude who pops in with a candy bar near the end. Chocolate and peanut butter, circa 1927, were separate entities.
Until they mash together through forces of the universe. Sometimes, the combination proves dastardly (a bobcat and me in a phone booth, for instance). Other times, it’s pure magic (onion rings on a cheeseburger, or The Beverly Hillbillies, in fact.)
Every month, I compile a post called “6 Words.” Ernest Hemingway inspired it when he said any story can be told in six words. I ask bloggers, friends, strangers, and a few strange blogger friends to respond to a prompt.
August 31 is National Matchmaker Day. Put together things that you feel belong together. Think “Katy Perry, Joe Biden, singing karaoke” or “Bacon Pizza and trip to Fenway,” or something even better.
I attribute contributions as first name, last initial, and link to the person’s blog.

Thanks for the participation, Clay. Life is good over here, despite what the Colorado Rockies do to my psyche (giving up an eight-run lead in the last two innings against the dodgers – really?) The kids in your class are in for a trip. Namaste.
Love what everyone came up with 🙂
They did good, didn’t they?
What will be the next challenge?
It’s always amazing to see the diversity of ideas your friends come up with!

Reblogged this on All In A Dad's Work and commented:
24 short stories for your amusement. Yesterday was Matchmaking Day and Eli’s “strange blogging friends” wrote 6 words matching things they think belong together. Comments have been disabled here. Please visit the original…
These are awesome! I can relate to #4

New Winter Olympics Sport: Downhill Bowling
Fries in a frosty sounds great. Thank you for letting me join in the fun.
I had them just this past Sunday, Pat – I can vouch. Thanks for joining the fray.
Hi, Eli! This was a great prompt and it really made me think. Thank you for inviting me to contribute. Now that I am reading all the other creative combinations, I am thinking I should have done some more thinking about mine! Haha. Hope you are well. Happy Labor Day!
This is so fun, and people were so creative. I found this one really difficult until I looked over at my teens. 🙂
It’s always brought for these posts, Rhonda. Kids are good for finding answers – and usually, 10 questions for each one, too.
I liked yours a lot!! So awesome to see some of the combos.
Thanks, Aunie. You were stellar, by the way, as always.
All of these are awesome! Fries in a frosty is the most amazing thing ever! There is a Wendy’s by the salon my daughter and I go too and its a tradition for us to swing by and indulge after getting beautiful!
Have a great weekend Eli!
Not a bad collection, eh Tiff? I’m waiting for Wendy’s to debut the Fries/Frosty combo. Until then …
To that end, maybe a Wendy’s IN a salon …
