7 Random Smartphone Photos, and a Meat-free Challenge

I used to fill the Wednesday gaps when I didn’t have a guest post lined up with a random assortment of photos from my dilapidated Android phone.

Sometimes, they’d include a shot of my dilapidated car, which is embroiled in a long-haul challenge with my dilapidated phone to see who can last the longest. They probably have wagered also on whether they can outlast me, too.

We’re all still alive and (mostly) kicking, and I have lots of great guest posts and #GirlsRock interviews to get me through weeks and weeks of blogging.

I miss the photos, though. I’ll bring them back, at the first of every month. I’m also involved in the 12 Month Mindful Challenge. It’s Jen Schwartz’s creation, on the Elephant Journal. March is Meat-free. (eek!)

(Eek! Is Jen’s contribution. I would have used something with four letters.)

I’m really doing this, though. I’ll let you know how it turns out at the beginning of April. Unless it shows in all posts between now and then. I’m going red-meat free. Chicken and pork chops never hurt a guy, right?

So, here’s the seven random smartphone photos to share.

I wish I brought him home. I found him in a shop in Cancun on the company trip. All the skulls were painted differently, but he stood out. I dig the mustache, and if I ever own an NFL team, these will become their official colors.

The kid will love that I included this one. We took a trip to the Carolina Raptor Center a few weeks ago, only to discover I had the date for the free admission day wrong. So we horsed around (squirreled around?) in the park and around the lake instead.

Another moment that might get me in trouble! (Hey, these photos were selected at random.) Grace tried on the headgear at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I dig her hoodie, though, don’t you? She found it at an outlet mall at the beach.

This is from the trip Grace and I took to Jacksonville to watch our Broncos play the Jaguars. We got free barbecue, a Broncos win and spent most of the day watching from the first row. I believe that’s Blake Bortles with Von Miller on his back on the field.

One more from J-ville. There’s an awful lot of orange going on for a road game. The Jags’ mascot bungee-jumped from the top of the stadium and took a zip line to the 50-yard line. Oh, and that cheerleader in the middle wouldn’t stop blowing me kisses.

For a post on a work blog, I wrote a dessert recipe made from things found in your pantry, Chopped style. I put together some leftover Halloween candy, shortcake muffins, mandarin oranges and whipped cream. Delicious, and nutritious. Right?

The two boys we feed outside the back door. The one on the ground is Bibster. The one with the momentary upper hand is Prancer. He’s a Maine Coon who walks with stiff front legs, thus the name. When they wrestle, at least they’re not hunting blue birds.

Thanks, Courtney! We do it right on road trips, for sure – just don’t seem to take enough of them.

      She’s the best travel sidekick.

  2. stomperdad says:

Good ol’ Ansel Adams. He had an eye for photography. Love your shots, too. Especially that one of the squirrel. What kind is that? 🙂

    1. Lyn says:

      It’s a Juvenile Orange-Footed Squirrel 😉

      1. stomperdad says:

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

Kind of turns Darwin on his ear.

      3. Eli Pacheco says:

        Quite rare, in fact.

    2. Eli Pacheco says:

AA did good, Eric. Only figures he’d have a good quote to go on about it. Thanks, on my shots. That squirrel hasn’t yet seen the squirrel picture.

      Shh.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

ones we like are liked for the best reason of all, beth. i miss your joint and need to visit soon. (i’ll bring dessert.)

  4. Lyn says:

Courtney is right…you do have fun road trips. Oh boy, some of those episodes of Chopped are unbelievable. I think I prefer Beat Bobby Flay though.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Most of our road trips are soccer related, but the one to Jacksonville all about airbnb, cheap tickets, and a kid’s first NFL game.

Bobby Flay dents my Zen. Give me some Chopped action any day.

      1. Bobby dents my Zen too Eli… 😀

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

        Bends, but never breaks. Ever

      3. Lyn says:

And then of course there’s Cutthroat Kitchen 😮

      4. Eli Pacheco says:

I don’t get that deep into the shows, mainly because Amanda Frietag *sigh*

  5. Marsha says:

Fun posts, Eli. Love the desert! 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks Marsha! It was kind of delicious.

      1. Marsha says:

Good thing. It would have cost me a day’s calories! 🙂

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

Oh, I didn’t any calories in – I was fresh out, Marsha.

      3. Marsha says:

haha Send me some of it then? I’m sure another virtual piece won’t kill me. 🙂

  6. LOVE these photos! Grace looks like you, don’t you think?
I don’t visit often enough, but I’m so glad you never leave. I always walk away from your words more grounded, happy, and ready to face the world.
    Thank you, Eli 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks, Michelle! Grace does favor me, but I don’t like to say that in public, lest she hear it.

I’ll never leave, and I know you won’t either. It’s a busy world out there, and I don’t get to my favorite spots nearly enough. At all.

I’m so glad you come away from here ready and not just itchy. Thank YOU.
