Timing is everything.

L2020Sunday, feeling almost caught up in the writing part of this #AtoZMadness (but still way behind on reading!), I had the task of cranking out a post to go with the letter K. Oy. Kaleidoscope? Karma? Kaput? Kayak?

(I could write about the time I almost died in a kayak – or was that a canoe?)

Well, I still could have tied it to kaput! But I got a test from a friend named Kelly on Sunday afternoon checking in on how things are going (happens a lot with the COVID, and I’m grateful!) and wondering if I’d published our interview for #GirlsRock.

📚 #AtoZChallenge: J is for Jess Cohn, an interview with a senior acquisitions editor, for #GirlsRock

I don’t know who these little guys are.

I aspire to read at a fraction of the volume some of you do.

J2020I’d love to savor books on the order than I savor Totino’s pizza. (Not every day, but when I do, I savor it, and that’s how I imagine it must be to get into a good book. Like a supreme Totino’s pizza.)

Someone must decide which stories present the most compelling reads – even before we talk design for book covers or what wine to serve with chips and salsa at our book signings. These things are also important.

Isn’t that what we should be thinking about?

#AtoZChallenge: D is for Dorsey Standish, 🧘 yoga teacher and mindfulness coach, for #GirlsRock

Meditation has kept me sane.

D2020Relatively speaking. I needed that long before the COVID took hold. Almost every day for almost 2 years, I’ve tapped into Simple Habit each morning to breathe and be. So many wonderful teachers have meditations there.

One stood out as a transformative figure for me: Dorsey Standish.

Dorsey’s messages resonated with me. I reached out, and we became friends. I wanted her to become a keynote at my last employers’ conferences, but that didn’t work out. I wanted everyone to hear her message.

#AtoZChallenge: B is for Bonnie Marie Williams, voice talent (an interview for #GirlsRock) 🎤

Gotta write.

Two days in and I’m already behind in the #AtoZChallenge!

B2020I should be wrapping up a work thing, but I’ll take a few minutes to post this because our guest today deserves the time. Bonnie Marie Williams is a voiceover superhero. She even has a tagline.

How many of us have a tagline?

A 20-year veteran of theater, stage, TV and film, she delivers voicing for everything from children’s voices to narration, commercials, audiobooks, animation and more. She brings a charming, quirky voice to so many cool projects.

#GirlsRock: An interview with designer, athlete and adventurer Emily Bunnell 🍥

Emily Bunnell balked when I first brought up a #GirlsRock interview.

This is common. So many incredible women I approach (for this!) feel like they’re not #GirlsRock material. Which kind of reinforces that you actually are. I knew within 10 minutes of working with Emily at an ACN event in Detroit that I’d ask.

Emily had scooted aside to allow me room at the table with the company’s co-founders and other heavy hitters to prep for international training.

Speaking of training … at that table, I learned that this contracted designer competed at the highest levels as a weight lifter. I later learned after we became colleagues and friends of her penchant for taking the most incredible global adventures, too.

#GirlsRock: An Interview with health and wellness advocate Holli Nesbitt 💮

Oh, man – it’s good to be back.

Before I start writing again, I want to share with you a handful of wonderful interviews for #GirlsRock. For the uninitiated – #GirlsRock is an interview series that highlights women who do cool things.

Holli Nesbitt and I met on Facebook, and I quickly learned how passionate she is about helping people find better health.

During my time at ACN, I’ve seen how challenging network marketing can be. It takes someone special, with people skills and perseverance. You can’t have one without the other – and Holli has both in abundance.

#GirlsRock: ☀️ An interview with Life Learner, Truth Seeker, and Health Nut Amber McCrea

My interview with Amber McCrea started and ended in the same afternoon.

It didn’t feel that way. We exchanged questions over Facebook messenger with such mindfulness that time didn’t weigh in much. Before I knew it, we’d wrapped it up. Her insights and observations could’ve filled another post.

I’m unsure who to credit or blame, but this stuff is intentional, somehow.

Rather than try to explain it, I’m just thankful for the opportunity. She’s embarked on missions to make further connections and create magic elsewhere, too. I have a feeling that magic will do some kickass things out there.

#GirlsRock: 👩‍⚕️ An interview with nurse Anne Sullivan

Cats.

I read a blog about cats. Since I was a teenager, I’ve usually had at least one. Cybill (named for Cybill Shephard.) Pumpkin (the kids named her – she was a calico and fit the name to a whisker.) Brownie, Cubbie, Baby, and Leo.

They were siblings I rescued.

I met Anne through a post on Katzenworld. She spun a beautiful tale of a cat she’d taken lots of adventures with. We began a correspondence. I discovered her adventures with cats were only part of her story.

#GirlsRock: 📒 An interview with account management representative Sarah Gowher

stormtrooper reflection today need home

Our conversation began, naturally, over tacos.

Sarah Gowher and I had been connected on LinkedIn. She posted about tacos, and predictably, I responded. This is how all the strong connections in history are made. Everyone from Brad Paisley, Will Smith to Nostradamus would agree.

I found that Sarah’s story has a lot to love in it.

Finding confidence, getting support from peers and moving ahead – that’s the theme in Sarah’s journey. I love that. I feel like many of you will find parts of her tale to identify with. She has confident mindfulness with hope for what’s next.

#GirlsRock: An interview with Special Events and Volunteer Manager Emily Portal 🎫

Emily Portal just needed more power.

Or, power at all. She was on the way to an event and her laptop charger konked out. I hooked her up with a universal power supply. She didn’t miss a beat. The event was a smash. All part of a day’s work as special events and volunteer manager.

She’s a Gator and a go-getter; career development is important to her.

She grew up a writer, so this was a good interview. She’s lived the kind of “up late, up early” schedule I know way too well. She’s one of those rare #GirlsRock interviews from right here in Charlotte, so if you’re from here, you’ll get the regional references.
