Today on the A to Z Challenge, Y is for Yeah! It could easily go down because the month-long challenge is almost over. It’s been a grueling month in which I haven’t kept up with comments or blog reading.

By the time you read this, I’ll be in Cancun.

That is unless you read it before 9 a.m. EST. Then, I might still be asleep, or in the shower. Or I might be eating a $10 Burger King breakfast in the airport. I might be dorking around with comments, waiting to pass through customs.

If it’s later than that, maybe I’ll be on a bus on a wayward Mexican highway headed to the resort.

I haven’t even practiced my Spanish since … last year in Cancun.

I’m a Disgrace to my People

I’m a disgrace to my people. A shame to la gente. The “Is he? / Isn’t he?” exception to the rule of being Latino that leaves me neither theirs, nor yours.

I mean, look at my name: Eli Pacheco. Jewish? Mexican? Russian? Czechoslovakian?

What the hell is he?

I’m brown. Wood-colored, some say. (I prefer honey-roasted.) My dad called me a coconut: Brown on the outside, white on the inside.
