Thanksgiving. Turkey.

Fourth of July. Grilled burgers.

Christmas. Tamales.

See what happens? Mention a holiday, I bring up food. Every time.

Try it again.

Easter. Brunch.

Memorial Day. Cookout.

Halloween. Krautburgers and pigs in a blanket (that’s a family thing, stick with me).

Holidays are food days. I couldn’t escape this truth as I implored my friends, strangers, bloggers, and strange blogger friends for this month’s 6 Words topic. Today is Make Your Own Holiday day.

(It’s also Elaine’s birthday. You might know her from The Miss-Elaineous blog.)

Every time I gave examples of six-word sentences, they dealt with food. Eat Vanilla Wafers for Breakfast Day seemed to stick in my mind.

Some of you went with the food theme; others did not. Either way, I think we have another stellar lineup for this 6 Words. Be sure to check out the blog links listed with these sentences, too – if you like their six words, you should see their 600!

  1. What a great bunch of holidays! I’d like to take several of them this week!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

One by one – seriously, we need to take one each day starting today.

  2. Sarah Almond says:

How fun! We all came up with some great stuff. NOW LET’s CELEBRATE!!!! 😀

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

It was a blast – like, a holiday, even. You did come up with winners. Should we celebrate all at once, or one at a time?

  3. Whoa, those are some fantastic holidays – what date are they..? I am especially interested in those that include sleep, food and wine! Eli, I think you deserve your pizza day for bringing up this subject 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

We need to fill in the calendar, don’t we Tamara? I’d say 78% have something to do with sleep, food, wine, or some combination thereof.

I will gladly take the pizza day – I did this entire thing just for that, in fact.

  4. rhonda albom says:

Once again, a winner. I guess today is now officially “make your own holiday day,” although while I was out I was wondering if everyone else thought it was “Drive like an ass day.” Ah well, a story for another time, I prefer the food holiday above. Thanks for including my chocolate day. Wish it was real.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Glad you liked it, Rhonda. Drive Like an Ass Day was observed yesterday by bus drivers in Charlotte, in fact. Did you get any pictures of the motorist asshats?

Your chocolate day was sweet. And we have the power to make them real – at least at the local level.

  5. hilary says:

WOW! there are some really amazing days here… I am so ready to have any one of them today rather than just a plain old regular Wednesday!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I know! I Hate Plain Old Wednesday Day could have worked.

  6. So many great ones here and would love to have a few now after reading all of them and not just the one I came up with, too 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

We should swap them up and observe them, don’t you think Janine?

      1. The teacher in me thinks that would be a fun assignment!! 😉

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

The foodie in me is convinced of it.

  7. ksbeth says:

i’d better get celebrating, and fast! apparently i have been missing many holidays and thanks for including mine in the list ( beth

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

oh, we could stretch it out like hanukkah, beth. it’s never too late to take a holiday.

      1. ksbeth says:

that sounds like an excellent plan, eli

  8. I’ll take one of each, please! Another great In Six Words post, Eli. Thanks for including me. How about we add ‘National Celebrate Awesome Dad Bloggers Day’ to this list?

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

We should just line them up and go, Nicole. Thanks. I’m glad you were in on it – and I hope you’ll at least celebrate your own entry soon.

Oh, you know how I feel about dad bloggers …

      1. I did specify. I said ‘awesome’ dad bloggers. Not ‘schmuck’ dad bloggers!

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

Oh yes! I forgot to ask which … kind of like, ‘paper or plastic’? We should have ‘schmuck-free pops’ badges for all three of us.

  9. Meredith says:

This is always too much fun! Thanks for doing this, Eli!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

It’s like a holiday, doing these 6 words posts. Glad you were in it – I just wish I could have found an image with wine *and* ear plugs.

  10. Sandy Ramsey says:

Some very creative holidays here. What do we need to do to get them put on the calendar????

Always a fun post, Eli 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Six words brings out the creativity, I’ve found, Sandy. I think all we need to do is jot them in – will you volunteer?

Do you dig the Netflix image? I’d forgotten those days!

  11. These were all GREAT!!!! Thanks for including me!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Not a stinker among them, Marcia. Glad you came to play.

  12. chasingchels says:

Yes! Let’s please make all of these national holidays, especially the ignore work and read all day and no whining or talking back haha

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Right on! There are way too many calendar days void of holidays. No whining or talking back will make for a very quiet day … thanks Caitlin!

  13. Kim says:

These are always so much fun!! Thanks for asking me to play along!! Now, we need to start celebrating!!!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I should see if we can put together a sucky one. So glad you got in on the act, Kim. Which one do we start with?

  14. Rabia Lieber says:

Wow!! So many of these are about food (and wine!) It looks like a good calendar’s worth of holidays. Let’s get started on spreading them our throughout the year!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I know, right? What will Google do with the keywords ‘food’ and ‘wine’? April needs more holidays, if you ask me – let’s get started.

  15. Great entries. Count me in for the grand celebration. But after reading your intro, I’m truly ashamed that I neglected my BFF cheese. I thought about him, deliberated a few options and then went with the no-talking-back one. BECAUSE I WAS HAVING THAT KIND OF DAY, ELI!

    But back to cheese.

How about … Make Everything Better With Cheddar Day?
Try Sampling A New Cheese Day?
Let’s Put Cheese On Everything Day?
National Have A Fondue Party Day?
Hug A Goat for Cheese Day?
Too Much Cheese is Blasphemy Day?
Your Cheese Calories Don’t Count Day?

I’m sorry, cheese. Love you. I won’t let it happen again.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

      Michele – that.was.touching.

I feel the same way about cheese. Cheese goes on everything. Even cheese.

I vote for a Cheese Week. I’m free next week, in fact.

    2. Eat A Cheese Sampler Tray Day! Brie, smoked Gouda, Dubliner, Aged Cheddar, Parmagiano Reggiano, and…

      1. Eli Pacheco says:

We could do a six words devoted to cheese. Were there any affineurs in your books, Carol?

  16. My “I’m going back to bed day” is so relevant right now as I have the good ole flu. Loved all of these!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Good thing I don’t believe in jinxes, Melissa, or I’d say you jinxed yourself.

We’ll see if they predict anything if Andrea gets her billion dollars or Elaine gets her birthday cupcakes.

  17. Every day’s a holiday with you! So bummed I missed contributing to this post. But if I could squeeze in my own National Holiday in the comments it’s: Kids Do Their Homework Themselves Day.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Kind of like the Ides of March, Norine? Oh wait! Well, you can get in on the next one. I’m with you on that holiday. I’ve seen some great science projects parents have done in my time!

  18. I love all of them, but I snorted at Lay Face Down in Chocolate Day. I’m quite sure that day would do wonders for my complexion, if not my waistline. Thanks for including my (very greedy) offering!!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Just the visual, right Andrea? On Make Your Own Holiday day, calories are exempt. We assume that if you get your holiday wish, you’ll at least treat us to pizza, right?

  19. tamaralikecamera says:

This time, it was 100% my fault for not being here. I’m so sorry! I had some brainstorms. One was, “Mothers Day, on Monday, Without Working.” I don’t remember why I wanted it on a Monday, but there was a reason originally. Can’t think of it now.
And also, “Daylight Savings, Eat Rainbow Sprinkles Day.”
I’m a big fan of the second one.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

We left a light on for you, Tamara. You’ll get ’em next time. Meantime, why don’t you take Monday off? Rainbow sprinkles are probably always a great idea – especially if they’re on a cupcake as big as a horseshoe crab.

  20. Thanks for including me, Eli. I think most of these would be immensely popular. Wine, food, reading. Yes, yes and yes!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Glad you checked into the game, Carol. You noticed the trend too, huh? If people are looking for good books to read … I know a couple of great sources for some.

  21. Thanks for including me, Eli!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks for coming through for the team, Caitlin! Welcome.

  22. These are awesome!!!! Massages, chocolate, sleep :)…all sounds great!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Not a bad one in the bunch, right Jen? No Redo Your Taxes For Fun Day or anything. Not with all these massages, chocolate and naps around.

  23. I can’t believe that I forgot all about this! I guess there were just too many emails flying back and forth between us for me to remember this one. Oops, sorry! So today I’m celebrating “Deb’s Better Late Than Never Day” and came up with “Snow Lovers Ready For Spring Day.”

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Write Reminder on Deb’s Calendar Day – Why didn’t I think of that? We’ll rebound with a couple of stellar guest posts, I predict. Next time, with the six words!

I’ll remember your snow lovers holiday when I’m watching Elise play a soccer match tonight with temps in the 40s!

  24. What a fun thing you share Coach Eli. I’m thrilled you included mine this week. Thank so much!
    All the best,
    Nancy

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

We do like to spread the good stuff around here, Nancy. Thanks for joining the circus! Look forward to the recipe you’ll share here someday … chances are, I’ll be hungry.

  25. TammieB says:

Reblogged this on The Graying Chronicles and commented:
I love this! Since I’ve been stressing lately, I think I’d like a Lots and Lots of Wine Day 🙂

  26. TammieB says:

I would love to take some of these holidays! Can we start now? How about kick it off with Lots and Lots of Wine Day or A Beer for Every Finger Day

    1. Jennwith2ns says:

I’m in. Especially this week. And maybe into the next month. Lent, what?

      1. Eli Pacheco says:

The trend is growing. I’ll take a few this week, for sure. I think we should give up holiday-less days for Lent, Jenn.

      2. Jennwith2ns says:

Pretty sure St Patrick’s day just happened…in Lent.

      3. Eli Pacheco says:

Yeah but any holiday you have to eat corned beef and hash doesn’t count. Or shouldn’t.

      4. Jennwith2ns says:

Haha! My parents lived in Ireland for 7 years, and when they first got there they commented on the lack of corned beef and cabbage on St P’s day, and were stared at blankly. Immigrant food, apparently. None of them even knew what corned beef was.

      5. Eli Pacheco says:

My people do this – they still eat Menudo. Listen, Hispanic America – you don’t have to eat this any more! You are not taking scraps from The Man!

Make enchiladas or something. You’ve arrived.

    2. Eli Pacheco says:

Everyone should be allowed to take at least three and slip them into their calendars. I say today’s a great time to start. Are thumbs considered fingers in this case?

      1. TammieB says:

        Of course they are! 😉

  27. Jennwith2ns says:

Apparently no one likes my toothpaste-and-orange-juice idea, because my blog hasn’t gotten any extra hits. 😉

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I think toothpaste and orange juice fans are notorious for checking blogs late at night, Jenn. Patience.

      1. Jennwith2ns says:

Haha! And you’re speaking as an expert no doubt.

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

Of course – especially orange-juice flavored toothpaste.

      3. Jennwith2ns says:

Right. Which brings me to the question–why IS there orange flavoured toothpaste as an option when you go to the dentist?

      4. Eli Pacheco says:

Because they’re all out of bacon-flavored?

      5. Jennwith2ns says:

Undoubtedly. *throws up a little in her mouth*

      6. Eli Pacheco says:

Just don’t do that while you’re in the dentist’s chair.

      7. Eli Pacheco says:

How did we get to this point?

      8. Jennwith2ns says:

How do we ever? (The fact that my maiden name is “Grosser” usually seems to have something to do with it. It’s inevitable.)

      9. Eli Pacheco says:

Let’s see what we can come up with on Monday, then.

  28. Julia Tomiak says:

These are all great, and several had me chuckling, especially “Have My Husband Experience Pregnancy Day.” Nicole’s is, of course, hands down my favorite. This has been a wonderful way for me to check out other bloggers. Thanks so much for the opportunity. And I hope you get a pizza after practice this week…

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Couldn’t you just kick us where it counts and poke us in the eye and be done with it? Nicole did kind of nail it, didn’t she? She’s to 6 Words what that MIT nerd is to Jeopardy.

It’s kind of like a flea market for bloggers, without the discount beef jerky products.

Thanks for joining the fray this time, Julia!

      1. Awww, thanks to both! I’m pretty good at the Teen & College versions of Jeopardy, but the real, adult version stumps me! And I think Trebec could reduce me to tears in about 15 secs. Dude is kinda harsh, especially for a Canadian!

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

I didn’t think Canadians weren’t that harsh unless they had hockey skates on. Don’t even the Canadian Mounties ask politely for criminals to stop running away?

(Everyone copy off Nicole’s paper during the next pop quiz.)

  29. I like #4, #11, #18 (although change the name to Elaine, LOL. Okay fine, I’ll share with Andrea!) and 13 and 19… so many good ones! So fun to participate in this.

Thanks for including me, Eli! 😀

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

What do you think this is, your birthday? Oh yeah …

Andrea promised $100,000 to everyone who comments on this, and $500,000 to the bloke who posted it in the first place. Sounds fair.

Thanks for chipping in, and happy birthday.

  30. Little Guy & I tested our day (lucky #13) but I think we need to test a few more of these. I vote we start with #4 or #39…or maybe just all of them, one at a time…(I’ll drink his wine)!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

It’s best to have a series of results to form your hypothesis. You could do No. 4 for lunch and No. 39 for breakfast.

      1. Multi-tasking! I like the way you think…

      2. Eli Pacheco says:

When you can knock out two or more …

      3. Hope you don’t mind – I’m reposting tomorrow with a link – I need a holiday! I’m thinking one with chocolate cheesecake: 2 food groups in 1 great dessert! 🙂

      4. Eli Pacheco says:

I’ll never mind a repost – but is chocolate a vegetable?

      5. No – it’s a legume…(although some argue that cocoa beans are not true legumes)…and it should be it’s own food group!

      6. Eli Pacheco says:

I believe cheese should be separate from dairy, too, and at the very bottom of the pyramid, Jenn.

  31. Sleep, wine and chocolate. What an awesome group you put together here! 🙂 Thanks for including me – this was fun!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I think that’s the mama’s holy trinity right there – sleep, wine, chocolate. Y’all really came through big. Glad you were part of it, Carly! I hope people will make their way over to your blog, too.

  32. I can’t decide which one I like the best- Lay Face Down in Chocolate Day, or Have My Husband Experience Pregnancy Day. Genius.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

You could have your husband lay face down in chocolate while you experience pregnancy. It’s not the same, is it?

But yes, those two days ought to come back to back on the calendar.

  33. laurie27wsmith says:

Thanks for putting my day up Eli. you’re a good bloke.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks for making one, mate. Takes a good bloke to know one.

      1. laurie27wsmith says:

        This is so true.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Not a bad set, right Adrienne? There’s a line forming behind No. 3. You’ll have to take a number.

  34. Stephanie says:

Some of these made me laugh out loud – great list as always. I know, I’m sorry, I totally dropped the ball on this one, really – it’s lax season and those girls sticks are so shallow – I hope I can play again next time? This is always a really fun post.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks Stephanie. Let’s get you in on the next one! Send me an email for the prompt.

  35. kathyradigan says:

These are all great, but I have to go with Marcia’s chocolate holiday!!! Thanks for the giggle!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I like the commitment of being face-down in it. Thanks Kathy!

  36. Leanne says:

Ahhh! These are so great! I love these because they put a smile on my face and make me laugh right at the start of the day. All the chocolate ones are awesome… Lay Face Down in Chocolate Day. Haha! 😀

Oh! And Have My Husband Experience Pregnancy Day. Love it!

Thanks for doing these, Eli. Seriously. Every consider compiling your 6-Words project into a book? It’s fantastic content, a unique idea, and it promotes community. Just sayin’.

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Thanks Leanne. Glad you liked them. This was a good week to have something like this to turn to. Marcia’s getting a lot of props for her entry – I wish I had an image to go with it.

We fellas sometimes experience pregnancy. Like, when we eat too many buffalo wings and our favorite team loses a big game.

It’s my pleasure to do these. It’s my way of saying how much I value this community, even though I don’t get around to every post by all my favorites.

I wouldn’t know the first thing to do to put these in a book, but I suppose I could Google it, right?

  37. Rorybore says:

Not sure I can top that face down in chocolate one!
We have a snow day here today (yes, in spring) and they are kinda like holidays.
    Said no mom ever. 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

Imagine chocolate up your nose, though. It wouldn’t matter, right? Being stuck in a house with kids is just as good as a chocolate facial. I get it.

  38. mamarabia says:

Should not have read this while waiting for my lunch break! Too many food thoughts!

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

I used to think my blog was a fatherhood blog with a food complex. Now I think it’s a food blog with a fatherhood complex.

  39. Lisa @ The Golden Spoons says:

Great ideas here! Wish I had read this broker I wrote my list of holidays! 🙂

    1. Eli Pacheco says:

This would fill a calendar in all the right ways, wouldn’t it?
